Wine InnovaTech Seminar in Chile to face Climate Change Effects + Grape Genetic Challenges
With the aim of facing the challenges that climate change represents in vineyards and terroirs of the Valparaiso Region in Chile, in addition to the new scenario of international wine production and marketing of Chilean Wines, on May 16, 30 and 31, 2024 at the Palacio Rioja in Viña del Mar, the “Wine InnovaTech 2024” is going to be celebrated, event that is supported by the Innovation Agency of Chile, CORFO’s Viraliza Program to upscale the Wine Innovation Strategy in the Valparaiso Region, one hour from Santiago, the Chilean Capital.
During 3 days, Wine InnovaTech 2024 will bring together to Viña del Mar and San Felipe, winegrowers, winemakers, entrepreneurs, wine providers, investors and startups in the wine and wine tourism sector of the Valparaiso Region, from Easter Island (Rapa Nui) to the Andes Mountains in the nearby Río Colorado sector, close to Portillo, through two International Seminars, a Wine Technology Fair, a regional Wine & Tourism Fair, workshops and work tables, as well as a challenge to look for startups that are working in the wine niche, to accelerate their growth with partners in strategic areas of the Valparaiso Region.
The verticals of the Seminar are:
- Define strategies on how to confront Climate Change
- Creation of new products from surplus grapes and wines
- Promote biotechnological development to rescue the genetics of old vineyards
- Investment Attraction Strategy for Real Estate and Wine Tourism (Thematic Hotels or Lodges)
Some of the speakers that will talk about wine innovation in their specific fields and will be brought to Chile from Italy is Ettore del Lupo, Italian winemaker specializing in the rescue of old vineyards and from Austin, Sergio Cuadra, Chief Winemaker Fall Creek Vineyards of Texas.
Max Morales, Agricultural Engineer and researcher of Old Vineyards and Chilean Vinestocks since 2001 will be giving a speech to explain the importance of Chile in the world specifically in the presence of ancestral vineyards brought by French, Spanish, Italian to Chile since 1551 until before the attack of phylloxera in the world in more than 4.000 kilometers from north to south (DNA genetic material). The speech will explain strengths and opportunities of Chile by leading several actions like rescuing old vines, create new products and particularly, the importance of the creation of a genetic reservoir in Chile.
Ancestral Vineyards & Wine Tourism
Valparaiso Region has old and recent planted vineyards in more than 3.800 kilometers from east to west from Rapa Nui -Easter Island until Rio Colorado in the Andes Mountains where is located an old vineyard established few years ago with unique genetic material adapted to high altitude conditions of Malbec, Syrah, among other varieties.
The oldest vineyards in the Valparaiso Region are located in Villa Alemana and Quilpue and those wineries require support in technology transfer, marketing and packaging of a consolidated storytelling, which can be integrated into the value offer of the Region, so the wines could be exported, but also, professionalize wine Tourism.
Wine Terroirs like Leyda, Lo Abarca, San Antonio, Aconcagua and Casablanca have other challenges in terms of wine marketing and positioning to expand the market where they export, but also, optimize the grape production to create new products in vineyards that among 30 up to 60 years old in same areas of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Coastal Syrah, Malbec, among others.
Wine Investment Attraction
An important focus will be to promote the development of new businesses through a strategy of attracting investors, VCs and National and International Investment Funds so that they learn about the opportunities that companies in the regional wine sector have at seminars and fairs.
To begin this highly specialized process in attracting investments, Luis Felipe Oliva, an international consultant with extensive experience in the financial sector, will travel from Mexico, where he led various positions in public and private institutions, such as being the Former Investment and Financing Manager at Innovation Agency of CORFO to hold an introductory workshop on everything related to venture capital funds in order to establish the basic parameters to create a wine investment fund for the wine industry in the Valparaiso Region.
The workshop will be held on May 16 at the El Escorial Vineyard in the Aconcagua Valley and will be aimed at Vineyard Owners, Head of Finance, Bank Directors, Chief Winemakers and people related to the marketing and sales of wines in foreign markets.

Victor Rico, Former operations manager of WhatsApp-Meta, Ambassador of Angel Hub México, the largest angel investor network in Latin America and scout of H20 Capital Innovation.

Aconcagua Valley Wine Tourism Business Fair in Viña el Escorial
With the objective of promoting the Aconcagua Valley and the wines in the valley, the First Wine Tourism Business Fair will be held in Viña el Escorial in San Felipe on May 16 and in this way, attract the regional and national public to learn more about the different value propositions of wine tourism and wines, in addition to promoting the use of technology in the management of the vineyards, considering that Viña el Escorial has a nursery in the mountains in the Rio Colorado sector near Portillo.
Wine Technology Fair at Palacio Rioja
To reinforce the new opportunities generated, all technological and agro-wine entrepreneurs will be invited to participate in the First Wine Technology Fair in Palacio Rioja, on May 30 and 31, through 15 stands where supplier companies and national technological startups and international, will be able to present their advances and developments aimed at the regional wine industry, in addition to convening wine-tourism SMEs.
