Luxury Travel and Wine Writer Max Morales Returns to Organize Exclusive Wine Tastings
Maximiliano Morales, a well-known Agronomist, Travel Writer, and seasoned Wine Specialist, continues to captivate global audiences with his immersive journeys that blend the elegance of fine wine with the raw beauty of extreme natural destinations. With a career that spans continents and cultures, Max is now relaunching his focus on exclusive wine tastings and curated experiences across Chile and beyond.
Texas and Mexico: Wine Meets Coffee Culture
Max’s recent travels through Texas and Mexico after pandemic—from the rolling hills of Dripping Springs to the vibrant coastlines of Puerto Vallarta—highlighted his dynamic storytelling across multiple platforms, including social media (Instagram, Tik Tok and X Twitter, AndesWines.com, and the global coffee publication PerfectDailyGrind.com. These journeys not only showcased wine, but also delved into specialty coffee culture, bringing new layers to his exploration of terroir and taste.
From the Galápagos to Greece and Italy
In the Galápagos Islands, Max stayed at the eco-luxury Iguana Crossing Boutique Hotel on Isabela Island. Surrounded by volcanic beauty and endemic wildlife, he captured the spirit of sustainable travel while writing about nature’s balance with modern comfort.
His wine travels extended to Mendoza, where he visited and wrote about Tapiz Wine, Cuvelier Los Andes, and Diamandes, all key players in Argentina’s premium wine scene. These adventures then took him to Europe, where he explored the terroirs of Tuscany at Coldorcia and the wine regions near Thessaloniki, Greece, including Alpha Estate, Katogi, Strofilia, and Bibla Chora, expanding the editorial reach of AndesWines.com to new global audiences.
Wine Specialist Aboard National Geographic Explorer
From 2008 to 2018, Max served as a freelance Wine Specialist aboard the National Geographic Endeavour and later the Explorer, where he brought deep expertise and engaging storytelling to remote expeditions at the Chilean Fjords, Patagonia and the Strait of Magellan, crossing later to the Atlantic. Guests enjoyed curated tastings of Chilean and Argentine wines, paired with lectures that connected wine to climate, history, and regional identity.
One of his most acclaimed lectures, “Rescuing Old Vineyards Across 4,000 Kilometers,” traced the evolution of Chilean viticulture from Spanish colonization to modern sustainability. He highlighted remote regions like Itata, Toconao, the Elqui Valley, and Arica-Parinacota, where ancient, dry-farmed vines still thrive. A centerpiece of his talk was San Rosendo, a historic railway town where families have preserved 150+ year-old Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines brought by French Families—some of the oldest in the world. These sites are now part of the exclusive Climate Change Wine Tour, curated by AndesWines.com, offering immersive experiences into how climate, tradition, and innovation shape the future of Chilean wine.
Expanding to Maipo, Colchagua and Valparaiso Region
Recognized for his expertise, Max has been privately hired by wine enthusiasts to lead bespoke tours through Chile’s most prestigious wine regions. He has guided clients through the Colchagua and Millahue Valleys, offering insider access to estates like Vik Retreats and the French-Chilean Lapostolle Winery, where guests experienced vineyard life from unique perspectives—whether through luxurious “cabanitas” or deep vertical tastings.
The challenge for 2025 will include to explore the Maipo Valley and Valparaiso Region to find new gems in the unique terroirs of Aconcagua, Puente Alto and Coastal Range of both areas.
Wine Tastings in Coquimbo and the Atacama Desert
In 2025, Max established his new home base in La Serena, Chile—a coastal city with a rich wine and pisco heritage dating back to 1544. From here, he has relaunched his writing and tasting series, focusing on luxury wine experiences in cabins, lofts, and boutique hotels across the Elqui and Limarí Valleys, and into the heart of the Atacama Desert. His goal: to organize private wine tastings that spotlight hidden gems and craft unforgettable escapes through slow travel, local culture, and design-forward lodging.
