The Argentine wine scenario is still changing with the arrival of new Chilean investors who are still trusting and investing in areas such as Luján de Cuyo, La Consulta, Perdriel or Agrelo. This way, until December 2007, based on Caucasia Wine Thinking statistics, and supported by the leading Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio, if we consider the total of Argentine bottled wines, Chilean/Argentine wineries have already taken 18% of the exported wine–all types and varieties. This percentage will keep increasing in the next years, according to the exclusive report from AndesWines.com |

SMALL, FAMILY WINERIES AND THEIR OPTIONS TO FIND IMPORTERS
One of the main difficulties for small and family wineries is how to place and introduce their wines on new markets through importers and distributors in Europe, North America and Asia. One of the many reasons for this situation is the difficulty to show the consumers, importers and distributors the attributes and strengths of these unknown to most people but good quality new wines so that the demand can be generated. |

ITALIAN WINERIES UNDER SUSPICION OF USING CARCINOGENIC PRODUCTS IN WINE PRODUCTION
No, no, no Italian winery owners. No, to poisoning wine.Even if it is the mafia that`s doing it. This can not be accepted under any circumstances. The European Commission has asked for information about the new alimentary scandal reported by the Expresso newspaper. According to the newspaper, at least 70 million liters of low-priced wine available in supermarkets all over the country in bottles and tetra pak carton, contain only a fifth of the real wine. The analysis revealed that the rest is a dangerous mix of water, sugar and chemicals substances containing carcinogenic fertilizers, clorhidric and sulfuric acid. By Eric Ribera Gabandé |

NEW GEM IN THE TREASURY OF THE WINE WORLD: SZEKSZÁRD
Hungary is still a considerable actor in the worldwide scene of wine, however, among her 22 wine regions only a few is known abroad. The fame of the Tokaj region and its Aszú is not only being consolidated but it is growing remarkably and the prestige of Eger has already been recovered due to its renewed Bikavér (Bull’s Blood) of several quality-committed producers. The “Top 10” list of the emerging wine regions, recently published by the well-known tourism journal, ShermansTravel, contains two Hungarian regions, Villány and Szekszárd, which have started to sound not only among the local wine lovers but abroad, too. When the specialized foreign press writes about the “incredible revolution of the red wines of Hungary”, the praise is first of all dedicated to the glorified wineries of Villány, nevertheless, some outstanding wineries of Szekszárd are as well more and more acclaimed. |

JANCIS ROBINSON´S MW - WINE COLUM: LET'S HEAR IT FOR WHITE WINE
As a wine lover of some years' standing, I am puzzled by one thing. Why in all the buzz and writing about wine is so much more attention paid to red wines than white?. It wasn’t always so. Readers as – ahem – experienced as me will recall the white wine boom of the late 1970s and early 1980s when Chardonnay was king and the produce of what little Chardonnay was planted then was stretched, almost infinitely in some cases, with wine made from whichever light-skinned grapes were most common: Thompson Seedless (aka Sultana) and French Colombard in California, Chenin Blanc in South Africa, and all sorts of grapes meant to be dried rather than fermented in Australia. ENGLISH WINE – FAR FROM A JOKE NOW

Wine is a particularly sensitive barometer of climate change. While drought has become such a problem in Australia that the authorities have been threatening to turn off the irrigation water in some of that country’s most important bulk wine producing regions, some of the more obvious beneficiaries of global warming today are wine producers in such relatively cool countries as Canada, Germany, Belgium, Denmark – and England. |

Jancis Robinson - Master of Wine explains: As Europe’s wine surplus shows no signs of abating, the EU agreed measures yesterday for ‘crisis distillation’ of up to 1.5 million hl of AC wine (that’s equivalent to a quarter of all the AC wine made in Bordeaux last year) and the same amount of French vin de table, as well as 2.5 million hl of Italian vino da tavola and 0.1 million hl of DOC wine. Further requests for similar support for crisis distillation from Spain and Greece are still being considered but the measures for France and Italy alone with cost the EU – us Europeans - €131 million (about £90 million or $167 million). |

All wine making countries have little secrets that everyone in the know knows and everyone not in the know, doesn’t seem to really care.
