THE WINE IPOD IN ANDESWINES.COM
Hello to all readers of Andes Wines. Jimena and Sebastián started to prepare a new series of videos about the wine industry in Oceania. The Wine trip started last year when we visited New Zealand, where we met three local producers, and we conducted them interviews and videos, which are already available on youtube. The three videos that we already made will be available on an Ipod touch. That way, any interested can view, listen and enjoy our product directly. Furthermore, we can show clearly and in a much more complete way in a video than in photographs. Finally, we believe that our last interview, we will raise the door open for new projects and ideas about wine. Our first visit will be this July 4th in the Good Food and Wine Show in Sydney, where they will present, in addition to prominent Australian chef, the renowned English chef, Gordon Ramsay. Then we will be in the 2009 version of the Fair Restaurant on 10th and August 11th. More information at andes@andeswines.com |

Andes Wines continúa con "The Wine Trip in New Zealand". |

In a direct or an indirect way, Chile supports every-day progress made by this Asiatic giant. Chile encouraged and leaded the successful return of this emblematic vine. In order to know the Asiatic achievements, AndesWines.com talked to people in charge of the project. Chile has more than 6.000 hectares planted with Carménère, having a great variety of wines from this vine. |

I write in the middle of my book updating cycle, a period of about four years of intensive revision of The Oxford Companion to Wine and then The World Atlas of Wine that comes round every six or seven years, leaving me barely a third of my life when I don’t have a black cloud of conscience hanging over me urging me back to the keyboard. (This is not counting all that I write for this site, my weekly FT column, my bi monthly syndicated columns and a host of other commitments. |

VINEYARD VERNACULAR: AUSTRALIA
Enough is enough - Australia's winemakers must let wine speak for itself. They must learn plain English and stop mangling the language on their labels. The mandatory label information includes vintage, alcohol percentage, volume and grape variety - we do not need the weasel words, jargon and misinformation that nowadays seem to dominate. |

RED WINE´S POLYPHENOLS: NEW DISCOVERIES
Scientists in the UK have identified "oligomeric procyanidins" as the likely ingredient in red wine's polyphenols that contributes to heart health and longevity. And some red wines contain more procyanidins than others. In the journal Nature, Dr. Roger Corder, from Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, and his associates note that not everyone agrees that red wine actually possess heart-healthy properties, which they say may be due to the complexity and variability in the constituents in different wines. |

NEW ZEALAND: PINOT NOIR PURSUES INTERNATIONAL MARKETS
Even though this is not a simple variety- because it is one of the most difficult wines to ferment and it often loses the promising aromas and flavours- New Zealand has become a great producer. The New Zealand Wine Company, Voss Estate Vineyard, Sacred Hill Wines and Isabel Estate Winery are getting worldwide known because of their Pinot Noir. Being one of the oldest grape varieties to be cultivated, New Zealand´s Pinot Noir is often described as a complicated fruit, in terms of growth and how to deal with it in the winery. |
